Quality has been part of West End since the beginning. The idea for West End Moving & Storage Company began in 1928 while John Kartovsky, Sr., operated a coal delivery business out of his house on Howard Avenue in Bridgeport, Connecticut. One of his customers asked if he would use his truck to transport their household effects. Mr. Kartovsky performed the service, and realized the value and possibilities associated with moving household goods. He changed from the coal delivery business to the household moving business.

By 1953, the growing company relocated from his house on Howard Avenue to an office building and warehouse just a short distance away. Mr. Kartovsky's three sons worked with their father, and his son, Peter, took over as president in the early 1960's. With Peter leading the company, it became one of the largest moving and storage companies in New England.

In 1980, Peter retired and turned the company over to his brother, John. Under John's leadership, the company purchased the 70,000 square foot facility on Pine Street in the West End of Bridgeport, where it still operates today. John retired in 1986 turning over the presidency to a third generation family member, Leonard L. Toigo. Under Leonard, the company has remained strong and one of the major moving company's in New England.

Each chapter of West End's history has further enhanced company expertise. That commitment to excellence continues as West End progresses into the millennium and beyond.
