West End Moving & Storage
Quality has been part of West End Moving & Storage Co. since the beginning. The idea for West End Moving & Storage Co. began in 1928 while John Kartovsky Sr. operated a coal delivery business out of his house on Howard Avenue in Bridgeport, Connecticut. One of his customers asked if he would use his truck to transport their household effects. Mr. Kartovsky performed the service, and realized the value and possibilities associated with moving household goods. He changed from the coal delivery business to the household moving business.
By 1953, the growing West End Moving & Storage Co. relocated from Mr. Kartovsky's house on Howard Avenue to an office building and warehouse just a short distance away. Mr. Kartovsky's three sons worked with their father, and his son, Peter, took over as president in the early 1960s. With Peter leading the company, it became one of the largest CT moving and storage companies.
In 1980, Peter retired and turned the company over to his brother, John. Under his leadership, the company purchased a modern 70,000 square foot office and warehouse facility on Pine Street in the west end of Bridgeport, where it still operates today.
In 1986, John retired, turning over the presidency to a third generation family member, Len Toigo. Len continued to grow the company into one of the premier moving companies in Connecticut by becoming an Allied Van Lines agent and increasing the company's local and commercial moving businesses, serving Fairfield and New Haven Counties.
In 2006, Len also retired, selling West End to another family-owned moving company, which is in its 4th generation of family management. This company will be celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2009.
Each chapter of West End Moving & Storage Co.'s history has futher enhanced the company expertise. That commitment to excellence continues as West End progresses into the millennium and beyond. We pride ourselves on being a superior CT moving and storage company, and we look forward to serving you.
